Hopefully after reading the Understanding Home Prices series you have a better understanding of what can affect the price of your home.
If you have owned your current home for a while, its value has most likely changed, especially given the current market and economy we are in.
There are several ways to find out how much your home is worth.
An easy way to find the out the value of your home is to call a real estate agent. Ask them for an estimate of your home’s value. In most cases you might be able to get a real estate agent to do this for free because you may do business with them in the near future.
Another option you have is to ask an appraiser. Your bank or real estate agent should know a number of appraisers they can recommend to you.
The third method would be to do research on the homes that have been sold recently in your neighbourhood. Compare your home with similar ones that have been sold. This information can sometimes be hard to get if you do not keep up with what happens in your neighbourhood.
If you are unable to find the information yourself, ask your real estate agent for the information and they will be able to provide it.
