Last article, I wrote about the fiduciary duties that a Real Estate Professional is responsible for when it comes to serving a client. So I’m assuming that if you’ve read that one, then you’re fully aware of what must be done by a Real Estate Professional, according to their legal obligations.
In this article I would like to highlight some of what I believe SHOULD be done, which in turn makes the Buying & Selling process more comfortable and FUN! Yes, I said FUN.
Any of you out their looking to purchase a new home, look for these things when the Real Estate Professional is working with you.
1) Quick response time, (normally WITHIN 20-30 minutes) sometimes just to let you know that he/she got your message.
2) Before taking you out for the homes you have requested the Real Estate Professional should have an idea of what the areas homes similar to those being viewed are selling for in the current market
3) Listening and responding to YOUR needs, rather than trying to convince you of THEIR needs.
4) Listening to your questions and answering them with the information you requested
5) If you are traveling with a child, ensuring that the child safety seat is safe for your child.
6) I also tend to warn my clients that the home buying process is an emotionally charged process and it may get tiring, frustrating, insulting, and nerve racking. On the other hand when you find what you are looking for you will be overjoyed, and elated!!
7) Adding value to your experience that is above and beyond the buying process…. Provide educational tips and tricks, after all if “you win the agent wins!”
Keeping in touch with you after the deal has closed
Most people settle for an agent because either they have known them for a long time or they are a family friend, and they feel they need to be loyal to them. I respect that loyalty is paramount, however BUSINESS IS BUSINESS and if they get offended that you are simply interviewing other agents just to shop around. Then you gotta wonder… Why are they feeling threatened by you shopping around?
Don’t get me wrong, I respect loyalty and would like my clients to remain loyal to me as well, however I would equally expect them to let me know if I wasn’t treating them with the respect and professionalism that they would prefer to be treated with.
I believe knowledge is power, and that is the preliminary step in getting the results you want and an effective qualified Real Estate Professional is the next step in attaining what you are looking for! When I provide you with the knowledge, I’m confident you will proceed to make the right decision for yourself!
