Dogs on the Hardwood??

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.

I’m a dog lover and like to treat my two dogs, Ria, a 3 year old Boxer, and Rocca-lil’-Baby, an 8 month old Boston Terrier, as integral parts of our family. To me, this has always meant that the dogs are allowed in every room of our home and even get some cuddle time on the couch while we watch TV. Recently, I finished renovating the living room in my turn-of-the-century home, which not only includes leather furniture, but hardwood floors. After viewing many ‘pet-loving’ homes with scratched hardwood floors, I was thinking that my dogs simply would not be allowed in the living room. For the first few days of curling up on my new leather couch, I was emotionally torn. I was completely enjoying sitting in warm, inviting comfort, reading my favourite book, but my attention was periodically drawn to two forlorn faces staring at me from the kitchen. This just wouldn’t do.

Luckily, a few weeks ago, while having coffee with a client, I was informed of a product that one can purchase to prevent nail-damage to hardwood, walls, furniture, or even to the dogs themselves! These products are vinyl nail covers, of varying sizes, that simply glue onto your dogs nails. They come in a package of 40 and because, often, it is the front nails that do most of the damage to floors, you can have 4 applications to front nails or 2 applications of both front and back nails. Each application lasts 4-6 weeks and the vinyl caps are non-toxic and inexpensive. When you compare them to the investment that you’ve made to your home, this product is worth every penny!

As for where you can purchase these items; I ordered two sets from an online bidding site. There are a few different brands to choose from, but they all claim to do the same thing and are pretty equal in cost. When I got the caps they were a bit too long, so scissors were needed to cut them to fit. Application was easy, especially since the dogs were groggy from having an afternoon nap in the sun. Immediately after application Ria didn’t bother with her caps, Rocca-lil’-Baby tried to chew them for a few minutes, but now he’s not even aware of them. Problem solved and now we can all enjoy our new space together!

After graduating with her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1991, Tammy loaded up her car and drove west. Being from a military family, Moose Jaw was a familiar destination, so when the trip west included stopping to visit old friends, Tammy decided to put down roots. Real Estate has always been an interest of Tammy’s, particularly when it comes to upgrading older homes. Tammy is not unfamiliar to what it takes to renovate a home from the ground up. She moved a house onto a plot of land in 2000, completely upgraded it while participating in the Energuide for Houses program sponsored by SaskEnergy, and sold her acreage, along with her last business, Big Red Barn boarding & grooming in 2007. Tammy lives in Moose Jaw with her son Carter and their two dogs, Ria & Rocca lil' Baby. In 2007, Tammy’s first year as a Residential Real Estate salesperson, she received a Bronze recognition for the GMAC Outstanding Sales Achievement award…an excellent accomplishment for a first year Realtor. In Tammy’s 2008, she received a Silver recognition. “My goal is to make people happy about purchasing or selling their home. It’s more than a transaction; it’s a life-changing experience.”
