In the last instalment in this section, you will find yourself just days away from meeting potential landlords, before you make a final decision on whether you want to rent the unit in question.
When the time comes to meet a landlord, remember that you have to make a good first impression.
You first impression can play a large factor on whether you get the rental unit or not.
When you visit a property, come prepared as if you are ready to start renting that day. Now I do not mean you come with your bags and personal belongings.
You should come with the following:
• A cheque to leave a deposit
• Your rental history and references from your previous and current landlords
• Your list of questions
You have to be prepared to show your seriousness in wanting to rent the accommodations; you do not want o come unprepared and waste both your time and the landlords.
To make a good first impression you should try the following:
• Know both the name and direct contact number of the person you are meeting
• Dress neatly and arrive on time; you might want to leave early in case you get lost on the way
• Review your credit before your landlord does
• Whenever you are touring a neighbourhood or building, be sure to be courteous to anyone you meet, as you never know who might be a potential landlord
When you are meeting with potential landlords, you know that the search its nearing its end, and it will be only a matter of time before you finally have a place you can call home.
