1000968 escavator4 135x100 Winter’s Inn Shelter Given the Go AheadSupporters of Medicine Hat’s Winter’s Inn emergency homeless shelter were in great spirit on Thursday as the city granted approval for the shelter’s proposed new location on the 900 block of South Railway Street.

City Hall’s council chambers were packed with supporters and activities of McMan Community Service who were all awaiting the decision from the Municipal Planning Commission.

As you might remember, previously it was written that the future of the Winter Inn’s shelter had been in jeopardy after a number of businesses in the area objected to the facility’s proposed new location.

Executive director of McMan, Chris Christie assisted with her organization in an extensive good neighbour campaign, attempting to address the concerns of business owners.

A good neighbour campaign helped must have worked as the Winter’s Inn proposed new location was accepted, also the lawyer for a neighbouring building was speaking on behalf of the building’s tenant, Medicine Hat School of Performing Arts, that their client was willing to have the shelter located beside them once certain conditions have been met.

With the compromise made, the Municipal Planning Commision unanimously approved the Winter’s Inn new location.

I am happy to see everything work out, and that the number of people showed up to show their support for the shelter was large.
