On September 21st, it was announced that there will be support by the Harper Government for eight projects that will strengthen recreational infrastructure in Southern Alberta communities simultaneously stimulating economic activity.
The Harper Government is supporting eight projects in seven municipalities across Alberta. Federal funding is $1,476,415 and is being provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The total investment is meant to enhance recreational opportunities and improve essential infrastructure assets in the communities the projects are being completed in.
Federal funding for the Plainsmen Arena in the City of Airdrie is to help revitalize the facility and support its growth. The investment is directed towards rebuilding the underlying floor below the rink, upgrading the refrigeration system,expanding the dressing rooms and renovating the lobby area.
The Town of Olds’ Sportsplex facility is receiving support for upgrades which include the installation of energy efficient windows to reduce operating costs, improvements to the dressing rooms and replacement of arena boards.
The investment towards the Eau Claire YMCA located in Calgary is renovating the locker rooms, installing lighting and flow restrictors on showers in order to improve its energy efficiency.
The Town of Vauxhall and Village of Veteran are receiving funding towards upgrading the Vauxhall Recreation Centre and Veteran Arena.
Funding will be provided to enable the Red Deer Tennis Club to install an inflatable tennis dome, which will allow for full, year round tennis play.
The Three Hills Aquatic Centre is also enhancing its facility with an outdoor splash park and an indoor climbing wall.
The projects will be ensuring that the facilities can continue serving the needs of its community.
