On October 8th, 2009 the Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, Lynne Yelich and Saskatchewan Minister of Municipal Affairs, Jeremy Harrison have announced a joint investment of more than $6.5 million through the Recreations Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program; it is a major job creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan and will help strengthen economic opportunities throughout the province.
Today’s announcement has now brought about 10 more new projects, with a total of 97 community rinks, arenas and pool are being refurbished and renovated across Saskatchewan all thanks to Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
This is a great opportunity as it not only helps repair infrastructure but it creates much needed jobs to help boost the Canadian economy.
Ten recreational facilities, such as rinks, sports fields, and multipurpose facilities will be receiving upgrades. This includes upgrades to Nipawin’s Centennial and Jubilee Arena Complex; redevelopment of sports fields in the City of Saskatoon; and construction of an arena addition to Spiritwood’s existing curling and bowling facility.
Once again, this announcement shows that Canada is committed to continue building on the economic momentum in Saskatchewan. These projects demonstrate that Saskatchewan is moving forward with greater recreational opportunities across the province.
Federal Funding of over$3 million is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. Saskatchewan will be investing more than $3.5 million, bringing in a federal-provincial contribution of $6,529,408 on the project; this makes a total project amount of $11,046,122.
