On Monday night, the Medicine Hat City Council approved the proposed new development in the city’s southwest structure.
Medicine Hat City Council approved the area structure plan for Medican’s proposed Cimarron development, where we will see 872 acres between South Boundary Road and South Ridge Drive developed over a 20 year period.
This area will could eventually become home to approximately 15,000 residents.
The goal is to make Cimarron a unique community within the city. This subdivision will aim to be pedestrian friendly with a quaint “main street” of shops and cafes. There will be residential apartments and condominiums located above the businesses.
The desire is to create a community where you can live, work and relax all in the same place.
On another note, Cimarron will be environmentally-friendly, all homes will be constructed to Built Green standards; this includes landscaping done using xeriscape techniques. Neighborhoods will be laid out that leaving your car at home is an option.
The only objection was made by Ald. Hamill as he does not find it right to have the commercial district in front of the residential area.
The Cimarron plan, including its proposed location for the commercial district passes all aldermen except Hamil voting in favor.
There really is nothing not to love about the Cimarron plan, it meets the needs of almost any family; the development is great; and it will be Built Green.
With the development underway, it might take a few years to see the results, however it will definitely have an impact on Medicine Hat.
