The hopes and dreams of Moose Jaw’s population rests on the shoulders of seven men and women who will be taking their oaths of office this evening. The new mayor and councillors are sworn in and pledge to follow the prayer to make decisions based on justice and prudence and fairness for all.
Taxpayers will be fixated on the actions and decisions of this new leadership group.
The common theme throughout the election was a desire to have a harmonious council; in other words a council in which all views are respected.
Well there will be debate among the council members, but there should not be stifling arguments. Each council member owes each other the opportunity to express their views fairly.
Over the next three years, this council has an opportunity to put Moose Jaw further on the map, by looking seriously at some ideas put forward by not only the winning candidates but the candidates who did not make it into the top 6.
There will be challenges to overcome in the years to come, but with perseverance, this council will plan for a productive future for Moose Jaw.
I hope to see action rooted from the new Moose Jaw council, and what Moose Jaw has to offer is further showed to the rest of Canada.
