In a survey for British Columbia homeowners and renters on housing affordability and green housing issues suggests that consumer confidence concerning real estate purchases is seemingly improving.
The survey sponsored by British Columbia Real Estate (BCREA) shows that 4 in 10 British Columbians plan or hope to purchase homes or properties within the next 5 years. About half of these potential buyers expect to purchase homes or properties within the next two years.
There is a higher proportion plan to purchase in Metro Vancouver, 46% and 35% elsewhere. This indicates that consumer confidence is now higher in the urban area.
With 5 consecutive months of increasing sales in home, it does reflect such optimism in the provincial sales.
The survey in May 2009 showed that peoples perception of the barriers to home ownership has changed, which is great news for homebuyers, sellers and renters.
The barrier to purchases is still affordability, along with job concerns, lowering market values and general concerns about the economy.
The survey reveals that making smart green choices at home are in the minds of most British Columbians.
The survey also shows that British Columbians, around 65% is willing to pay more for an energy efficient home.
With confidence improving, and the Canada slowly easing out of the recession, it is only a matter of time before we see higher confidence levels in B.C. and other provinces.
