On Friday, there were no fewer than 11 citizens and organizations that were selected to joined when they were handed symbolic keys to the city.
In a special ceremony at City Hall, Mayor Bob Tarleck bestow the city’s highest honour on recipients for their signature accomplishments in the fields of art, education, academic research, law, agriculture, law enforcement and international relationship building.
It is great to see people getting acknowledged for their work in their community.
Mayor Bob Tarleck noted that there are a number of deserving recipients and it is a a reflection of some of the great community builders that can be found in Lethbridge.
I for one am glad to see people getting recognition for their work, and the whole city knows of their accomplishments.
Traditionally, the key to the city is given to visiting dignitaries or deserving citizens as a sign of honour and welcome, symbolically placing the city at the recipient’s disposal. It is presented at the mayor’s discretion.
The fact that the key to the city has been presented to 11 local citizens and organizations show that they have deserved it on the fact of the great work they have done in the city of Lethbridge.
