Medicine Hat celebrated its first green built condominiums in a ground breaking ceremony on October 13th 2009.
Classic Construction LTD has begun development of 88 units in Southlands Pointe that will be providing affordable housing and construction techniques that will demonstrate the costs of savings of living green.
Classic Construction has taken the concept of affordable housing a step further with green home energy efficiency.
The past five years, we have see Classic Construction partner with Medicine Hat in providing housing that is economically sound.
This is first built green built project will being the investment in affordable housing for Medicine Hat to $26 million.
The development is located on Southlands Drive, and it will be using the latest in environmental technology; this includes Structurally Insulated Panel Systems in the walls. These are stronger and better insulated against weather and air infiltration noise.
They are produced in Medicine Hat by Classic Panels, a subsidiary of Classic Construction.
Other standard features include high efficiency furnaces, tankless hot water heating, Low-E argon window, Hardie plank and stucco durable exteriors, no VOC paint and insulated water lines that all meet Built Green standards.
These credentials have brought accolades from Medicine Hat’s environment and energy efficiency program manager.
Affordable housing is not the article Classic Communities Ltd has brought to the table, they have also brought about affordable monthly utility bills.
Southlands Points will be comprised of 88 units, including two and three bedroom floor plans.
Purchases are eligible for Classic’s 10 year mortgage assistance program with down payments starting at $3,900 and monthly payments as low as $521/ month, including condo fees.
