Affordable Housing Project Opens in Pinehouse
A new rental housing project for low to moderate income seniors has officially opened on October 16th in Pinehouse. The opening of this new rental project is thanks to a $300,000 funding commitment from the federal and provincial governments.
The project is owned and operated by the Village of Pinehouse, and will increase the availability of affordable and stable seniors’ housing in the community.
This project will be helping seniors’ have safe access to suitable housing, ultimately building a stronger future for themselves.
The government has shown its commitment to work with its partners to ensure that Saskatchewan seniors have a safe and affordable place to call “home”.
This project fills a need in Pinehouse and will help build a brighter future for all Saskatchewan citizens.
The project was undertaken by the Northern Village of Pinehouse, and consists of four tw0-bedroom single detached units.
These units include “green” features such as the use of renewable energy for hearing and increased insulation.
The project provided an opportunity for local individuals to obtain trades training and work experience as well.
The federal and government provided a total of $300,000 in funding assistance towards the overall costs of the $425,000 project. Through the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, Saskatchewan was able to contribute its funding through the Affordable Housing Trust.
In Saskatchewan, the amendment to the Canada – Saskatchewan Affordable Housing Program Agreement, which is included in funding under Canada’s Economic Action Plan has brought federal housing s support of $74 million to Saskatchewan.
The Government of Saskatchewan will match that commitment, making a grand total of $148 million to go towards the renovation of existing social housing and the development of new affordable housing in Saskatchewan by 2011.
