The City of Toronto launched the new 3-1-1 system this week and the City of Mississauga and Region of Peel is set to follow suit on October 5, 2009.
What is 3-1-1?
3-1-1 is a quick easy to remember, 3-digit phone number, the purpose of 3-1-1 is to offer one point of contact to The City of Mississauga and Region of Peel services, programs and additional information that residences, businesses or visitors may require. It is a new service that has been created to provide callers with specific answers to questions or direct them to the right person or business.
As Canada’s 6th largest municipality, the City of Mississauga recognizes the value of offering easily accessible customer service to residents, businesses and visitors. Like other major Canadian cities offering 3-1-1, Mississauga has developed a centralized Customer Service Centre, ready to answer and direct callers looking for City or Regional services, programs or information.
In dialing 3-1-1, callers will access an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) menu that provides the option of selecting either City or Regional services.
If a caller is inquiring about a Regional service or program, such as waste and recycling, water, health or social services, they will select option 1 and be routed to the Region’s customer contact centre. To access City of Mississauga information and services, callers may remain on the line to be routed to the Mississauga Call Centre. If the caller is unsure whether the service or program they are looking for is municipal or regional, they may simply remain on the line for assistance from a trained Mississauga Customer Service Advisor.
