When you decide to renovate your home and you have the finances to afford a professional contractor you will have to look out for several things that they will not tell you upfront.
Here is a list of 5 important points you have to be sure to ask any contractor you hire or consider hiring.
1. What are your Credentials
When hiring a contractor you might assume that they have spent years earning their craft and have the proper credentials. In some cases you might just be hiring an amateur who has no idea what he is really doing and you are just handing your money to.
Ask the contractor for his credentials and any work he has done in the past to ensure what you are getting is quality work. If you can contact any of the contractor’s previous employers you can inquire about their work ethic and what kind of problems occurred throughout he process.
2. What the Contract Really Says
Have your contract read by your lawyer or anyone who can assist you in legalities as contracts will generally not favour you but the contractor. By thoroughly reading the contract you should be able to find and make adjustments to make it fair for both you and the contractor.
3. Job Start and Completion Date
Having these dates stated in your agreement will allow you to have a proper idea for when you should expect the job to be done. You do not want to be stuck with a contractor working on a job for 4 weeks when it was supposed to be finished in two.
4. What Materials are Being Used
You do not want to have a project done with third rate materials. Be sure to find out what the quality of materials are being used in project.
5. Cost VS Value
Shopping around will help you find the best cost for your project to suit what you want. Do not overpay for work that does not require it.
By asking these simple questions you can be sure you will find a contractor worthy and qualified of doing a renovation for you.
