With the last stretch of summer near us, you will soon find yourself storing away your summer clothes and bringing back the winter jackets, gloves, boots, etc.
The cold days ahead of us will definitely be harsh and in preparation you should be preparing your home for the winter.
By following the following tips I have laid out, you will not only have a warm, cozy home but an energy efficient one as well.
1. Weather Proofing your Doors and Windows
A vast amount of heat is lost through your doors and windows without your knowledge. This only raises the cost of your heating bill while you are still left cold in your house. By adding or fixing the weather seals on your doors and windows you will be able to save money and have a warmer house.
2. Keeping your Thermostat in Check
You may already have installed programmable thermostat which allows you to set in when the ventilation will turn off/on and at what temperature to be at during certain times of the day. In the winter it is the same idea, you have your thermostat scheduled to turn on before you come home allowing your house to warm up and at night allow the temperature to go down at least 1 degree allowing you to lower a bit of your heating bill.
3. Insulating your Attic
Heat escapes everywhere, and as you might already know, heat rises and for this reason you should be insulating your attic to prevent warm air from escaping through the top of the home.
Seal any holes, whether they are electrical or plumbing related that lead form the attic for the house.
4. Call a Heating Contractor
By calling a heating contractor you can have a professional technician examine your house and check that your heating system is running properly to keep you warm without any unnecessary costs.
Winter can be a trying time for us all, but with adequate preparation you can reduce the stress significantly, not to mention the high bills. Being prepared will benefit you more than you realize.
