Medicine Hat moves ahead with its own green plan which is a program to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
The city of Medicine Hat is currently looking at updating its own targets what would see a 20% reduction in residential energy consumption by 2020.
It will also be targeting 2025 as the year a quarter of the city’s power demands will be met by renewable energy sources.
To reach this demand, there is a lot to get built and approved. However, with the municipal wind farm project in front of provincial regulators, the ability to meet the target is within reach.
If the wind project is approved, it would potentially meet around 20% of the electricity requirements for residential customers.
I am glad to see Medicine Hat taking such steps to create a greener environment; this ensures those future generations of Medicine Hat, which is what we should be doing.
This will also help create fewer costs for residents in general.
The project is currently waiting on the completion of tripartite funding approval from the provincial and federal government.
The Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) development will see a proposed multi family dwelling heated and cooled by combining solar technology.
It will be great to see energy costing less, which will help making Medicine Hat an even better city to live in.
