In the midst of kitchen renovations, you might look over at your stove and see all the stains on the wall causes by any splash of oil, water, etc. while cooking. A good way to keep your kitchen clean from such mishaps is to place a backsplash in your kitchen.
In case you are not aware of it, a backsplash is an upright surface that protects your sink or stove. In our case, we are talking about a backsplash for your stove.
Now some of you might think a backsplash is nothing extraordinary, but with a bit of creativity you can make it a central point in your kitchen. Remember, your backsplash is a part of your kitchen that people will see instantly when they walk in; so give it the attention it deserves and take your time deciding what to do.
Here are a few points when you are placing a backsplash in your kitchen:
1. Determine you budget
2. Use the same countertop material; it helps maintain the continuity of your kitchen’ design
3. Look at a large assortment of materials; your choices could be glass, ceramics, stainless steel, granite, marble, etc
4. A neutral color is normally done, but do not be afraid to go with a decorative pattern, or bright color in a border to make it stand out.
Generally, a backsplash is often done last during renovations in the kitchen, because you would want it to be in accordance to its surroundings. One more I will say this; do not rush any decisions when choosing the material and color for your backsplash.
Personally I like the idea of keeping the design of my kitchen, so when I added a backsplash I made sure to have it the same color and material of my countertops. Which is tropical green granite; needless to say I am pleased with my decision.
I have seen some backsplashes where the homeowner decided to place an assortment of tiles; whether it was a different design or color. I inquired as to why the design was like this and they simply said that each tile held a memory for them from an occasion.
Feel free to add any type of creativity into your backsplash, because who else will see it every day? Once you are happy with it, then that is all that really matters.
