Here are some ideas to help you maximize the space that you do have:
- In the kitchen: Store rarely-used items in the space above your cabinets in attractive boxes or baskets. Hang pots and kitchen tools on racks and magnetic boards. Clear space in drawers by organizing things into containers you can display on the counter.
- In the living room: The use of light colours will go a long way towards opening this space up. Get your furniture to do double-duty: use a trunk or other interesting storage item as a coffee table, put a tray on your ottoman to make it a table/extra seat.
