With the many renovations you can do to your house, we tend to forget that there are green renovations we can also do. Keeping up with the current trend of helping our environment, or going green I am prepared to offer you 6 Green Renovation Tips.
1. Place a rain chain or barrel under eavesthrough to catch water to use for watering plants. You can save money on your water bill and have water for your plants.
2. Use low VOC paints to paint your walls and ceilings. To cut your painting time in half, rent a spray machine. This form of paint is eco-friendly, giving you the peace of mind knowing you are doing what you can to help the environment.
3. Update your light bulbs to fluorescent fixtures. This is a great energy saver and gives more attractive lighting. Fluorescent light bulbs last longer than regular light bulbs, allowing you to get your money’s worth.
4. Make a potting room or a room for greenery. This will allow you to keep the air fresh and suck up CO2. You should choose native plants that will not require you to use a lot of water.
5. When building a deck, consider using reclaimed wood. Cedar ages well and naturally repels insects. Always a great feature for those who love lounging in their backyard.
6. Create accessible recycling and have a compost unit for your backyard. You can naturally fertilize your backward with a compost unit, allowing your backyard to grow healthy.
